Mother and Child Health Cards - Information

The Government of A. P. has announced that it will issue Mother and Child Health Cards from next month (September) to all pregnant women, both in Private and Government Hospitals, as part of its effort to reduce maternal and infant mortalities in the State.  In A. P, 15 Crore infants are born every year.  These Cards are being issued with an objective of keeping track of every pregnant woman and ensure proper birth planning.  The Card is also meant to monitor the growth of the child for the first 5 years.  This card would contain all details, including the medical history of the mother, the birth certificate of the child and immunization schedule.  The cards will be distributed, free of cost, through Government and Private Hospitals in the State.

Further, it is announced that the Government would issue School Health Cards from next month to about 90 Lakh children studying in Government Schools.  It is estimated that about 10% children studying in these Schools would have some health problems and when their health is continuously monitored and treatment given, their performance levels will improve and drop out rates could be reduced.

Minorities are alerted to access the Health Cards both in Hospitals at the time of birth of child, as well as, in their Schools for monitoring of the student’s health.
